Regularly clean gutters and downspouts
Remove dead twigs, dry leaves, and other debris from the roof. Make sure all drainage areas are not blocked by leaves and debris. When you install gutter guards it will make the job a lot easier. Cut away branches that are leaning against your house or lay on your roof.
2. Treat rotten wood trimmings
Use a screwdriver to probe the rotten wood trim around windows, doors, railings, and decks to rid it from rotting material. Use caulk or wood filler to fill the holes or completely replace the wood.

4. Do maintenance on your roof

5. Empty exterior water pipes
Turn off the valves to the exterior hose pipes, to prevent exterior water pipes from bursting when the weather gets below freezing. Empty the pipes completely of all the water. The water must be drained from the pipes completely, if not; the water can freeze up, expand when it becomes ice and damage the pipes.
6. Clean and repair fireplace

7. Protect water supply to your home
Wrap water supply pipes that run along the exterior walls of your home with heating tape. It will save energy when hot water pipes and prevent water pipes (hot and cold) from freezing.
8. Service furnace or heating system

9. Do maintenance on hot water heating system
When using a hot water system for heating you have to drain the expansion tank, check the water pressure, and bleed your radiators.
